Promotion to Professor

Richard Rijnvos is to be promoted to a Chair in the Music Department of Durham University as from 1 October 2014.
The composer was appointed Head of Composition at Durham in the year 2009 and was awarded a Higher Doctorate by the same University in 2012.
Richard Rijnvos has been awarded the prestigious Matthijs Vermeulen Prize twice, in the year 2000 for Times Square Dance, and in 2011 for Die Kammersängerin.
The composer is currently involved in a long-term residency with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. On 12 June 2015 the orchestra will perform the premie`re of his newly commissioned work fuoco e fumo in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Daniel Harding conducting.
On 18 October 2014 Cello Biennale Amsterdam presents the first performance of his semi-theatrical work barbara baccante for voice, cello and orchestra in Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. The piece will be performed by mezzo-soprano Salome Kammer, cellist Nicolas Altstaedt, and the Symphony Orchestra of the Amsterdam Conservatoire, conducted by Judith Kubitz. There will be a repeat performance the next day in the Bernard Haitinkzaal of the Amsterdam Conservatoire.
