Bell Bronzes 1

Composition

for soprano & 4 Brethouwer bells (2024)

20 minutes | no.56a

Bell Bronzes 1 is a composition for soprano and four Brethouwer bells.
It was composed to be performed during the exhibition Tradition as Workshop in Museum Kranenburgh (Bergen, NL), 12 October 2024.
Dutch visual artist Harmen Brethouwer devoted many years to recast the Western church bell in the shape of a cone.
These minimalistic art objects, manufactured in collaboration with Royal Eijsbouts bell foundry, are of course also musical instruments, each with its own unique overtone spectrum.
Bell Bronzes 1 adds an aural dimension to the visual contemplation of these exquisite objects.
